This course is designed to provide a well-rounded understanding of prefabrication. Participants will gain thorough knowledge of the benefits of Externalizing Work® and how these processes can enable them to reduce risk, become more profitable, and embrace safer work environments. The class is an active learning experience in which engages participants in hands-on undertakings that will allow them to put into practice the knowledge learned immediately upon course completion.

Topics include:
  • Productivity in electrical construction – the past, the present, and the future
  • Optimizing labor productivity – understanding and reducing risk factors
  • Prefabrication processes – what differentiates successful prefab from the rest
  • Foundational planning – effective project layout and design
  • Project management and organization – applying strategic principles to prefab
  • Implementation strategies – planning how to “make it happen” at your company

This course will empower participants to adopt the proper prefabrication process that are becoming the key to survival in the construction industry as it rises to meet the increasing market demands. Industrialization and globalization of the construction design, procurement, and build process has forced more and more contractors to adopt prefabrication and vendor-managed inventory processes and programs. Gain the foundation to establish solid and efficient processes from the very beginning. It is the building block that is essential to an optimal electrical construction business model. Successful contractors are the ones who arm themselves with the tools to drastically improve their productivity.

This course addresses the key steps in effectively designing and implementing prefabrication as well as how to blend this in as an integral part of an all-encompassing productivity management system that includes Job Productivity Assurance and Control (JPAC®), Short Interval Scheduling (SIS®) , and vendor managed inventory. Participants will learn how to apply MCA’s latest research on construction productivity to bring dramatic improvements in profitability to their company.

Participants completing the workshop will gain insight into:
  • The level of productivity required to succeed
  • Designing a prefabrication system that can reduce risk, increase profitability, and enable safer work environments
  • How prefabrication should interact with a larger optimal construction business model
  • Walk away with key action steps for implementing an effective prefabrication at their own companies

Continuing Education Opportunities upon Completion:

Externalizing Work® through Prefabrication 201: Building a prefab process

Externalizing Work® through Prefabrication 301: Setting up the prefab environment

Externalizing Work® through Prefabrication 401: Connection of prefabrication to the project outcome
